Papers of Hudson Martin [manuscript], 1857-1870.

The collection contains correspondence of Hudson Martin with Richmond firms; a copy of Robert E. Lee's General Order no. 9; and letters of Samuel M. Allen, 1860, describing his school and pupils, and Union soldiers William M. Wingit, 1864, and William S. Milmine, 1861. Correspondents of Martin include the following Richmond firms : W.W. Bartholomew, watchmaker; Clarkson Anderson & Co.; Davis "Dev Pree," slave dealers; John dooley, hatter; Fisher & WInston, wholsale druggists; Kent, Paine & Co., dry goods; Putney & Watts, boot and shoe merchants; Thomas, Hughes & Caldwell, Fancy Goods. Samuel M. Allen, Woodstock, Conn., school teacher, writes to his brother concerning his school and pupils. William M. Wingit writes to his wife Cynthia describing the battlefield after the battle of Nashville. William S. Milmine writes to his brother describing First Bull Run.
